Dress Rings

A “dress ring” is sometimes called a “safety-ring” because it is worn outside the wedding ring and can be used on any finger where it is too dangerous to wear a wedding ring. A ring for personal use, usually worn as an engagement ring, for attending parties, and so on, is called a “dress ring.”

A dress ring is usually thin in width, just as thin as an engagement ring. It can be of any precious material, and can have its ends turned outward, creating a circular frame. A dress ring is a ring that a woman wears on the fourth finger of her left hand indicating that she is not married- but engaged.

Dress rings are usually worn on the thumb, index or middle finger. They can also be worn on the ring or little fingers, although this is less common. The most popular ring sizes for a dress ring are 19mm or 18mm – these are the same as ring sizes for wedding rings.

Some dress rings are made from a single design of metal. Others are made from a combination of metal. The metal will either be solid or plated.

Don’t mistake a dress ring for an engagement ring. It may be possible for some, but in general, engagement rings are designed to serve as the bride-to-be’s forever ring. An engagement ring is worn on the left hand, and it must be carefully chosen depending on what she likes. It should also have a low profile and sit flush to her finger. A dress ring, on the other hand, can be as bold and flashy as you like.
